I am new to VAM Attribution and I need a little help identifying the VAM on two of my Morgans. I looked through VAM World and could not find the proper attributions. I'll help give you a kickstart, and then point you in the right direction to do your homework. The 1884-O - nice looking coin and in the pictures, may grade an AU50 to an MS61 - there's a LOT of chatter all over. As far as VAM - I see that the mint mark (O) is slightly tilted. The 1921-D appears to be a "micro d" because...they all were. There are some interesting die cracks on the reverse. I don't think they are variety attributable. You can start at www.vamworld.com and - dig in!
The 1884 O I believe to be a Vam 28 dash under 8. MS 60 with all the hits... the 21 D I believe to be a 1 BG 63/64 ish.
I see the slightly tilted (O) and as @Paddy54 pointed out the "dash under 8". Did either of you notice the die cracks between letters crossing both wing tips and what appears to be a die break on right side of the wreath almost at the tip. I don't know if they are attributable or not but to me they are significant markers. The 1921-D is where I started my endeavor into VAM attributions. I thought it would be an easy one to attribute due to the "interesting die cracks on the reverse", I was wrong! I spent a lot of time trying to find the same cracks on VAM World with no luck. On my coin the cracks are continuous all the way around the Reverse and it gets somewhat confusing after a short while comparing it to pictures. I was hope by putting it on here that someone would be able to at least point out an "easier to trace" marker other than those very confusing die cracks. I'm familiar with this site, a bit overwhelming at first but its where I have been doing my research. Thanks to both of you for you help!
