Ive come across a dime in my grandparents old house that has raised my interest.. I have no idea what it is other than the fact that is clearly a dime? Ive asked locally and I have heard "sheild dime", again I don't know what that means.. Description is as follows: FRONT Writing: VN DECIMO-DE BALBOA With a bust of a viking looking man. BACK Writing: REPUBLICA DE PANAMA 1982 With a sheild in the center and an eagle on top of the sheild. There are small images inside the sheild, it is worn so they are tough to make out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Does it look anything like this? If it does its Panamanian. 10 Centesimos, 1/10th of a Balboa. Check this site out for more information: http://www.coins-of-panama.com/coins/pc10-2.html
Oh! I feel silly! I appreciate you helping me! Do you happen to know if my coin has value? I have a gentleman inquiring about it and I'd like to be informed before I make a decision.
For that you would have to wait for someone more expert on foreign coinage than I. I only knew what it was because a good friend of mine is Panamanian and goes back to Panama now and then. He knows I collect coins and showed me some of the coinage from his homeland, the Balboa, the Centesimos, etc. If you can post pics of your coin on this thread that will help other with your request. And Welcome to CT.
