Could someone lead me in the right direction on this coin? About 22-23mm 5.0g. Thank you very much for any help :)

I tell you, that coin has a whole bunch of interesting to it to only be worth $1. :)

    Yeah...weird, huh?
I think Krause uses voodoo economics when they do their coin valuations.

If there was no Krause catalogue what would you value this coin at?

I would have guessed $4.00 basing the price on my insular egotism. Considering the vastness of the US with only two neighboring countries; this and most world coins become exotic and, with the exception of western Europe, are worth more to me than what Krause has valued them at. :foot-mouth:

That makes two of us who own one of these:

I acquired mine in the 1960's from a California dealer's foreign coin box.

Obviously this isn't the first time this has been discussed here, but a lot of the book values don't make a lot of sense. You'd think most collectors would be interested in owning anything with an unusual or attractive design, or anything from an exotic locale, but many coins fitting that description are worth a pittance, while others with no aesthetic value are big bucks.

Thanks all :) I was surprised at the quoted book value too. I think it is a nice coin. I just checked eBay and they do seem to sell for a few dollars when you add the shipping on ... that $4.00 est. seems better.
