---- CONSTANTINE I THE GREAT (307/10-337). Half Argenteus. Treveri. Obv: IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG. Laureate and cuirassed bust right. Rev: VIRTVS MILITVM / PTR. Camp gate, with four towers and open door. RIC 828. Weight: 1.19 g. Diameter: 16 mm. --- Late Roman is not my area and thus my blatant ignorance on this. I am considering to bid on this coin. But i want to know: a)The coin is not a silvering. It is fully(or almost fully) silver. – Right? b)What is the price-range in auctions for such a coin with that grade? Thank you for any help you can provide.
Unfortunately, the type is so rare that there isn't much auction history. This one sold for $1,400 before fees, this one $800. I can't seem to find any other examples at the moment. Both are in considerably better shape than the coin you posted. It's not silvering - it should be good silver through and through.
Wow, super sweet coin ... yah, I've never heard of a half ... cool => here is an example from CNG ... hope it helps https://cngcoins.com/Search.aspx?IS_ADVANCED=1&ITEM_IS_SOLD=1&ITEM_INVENTORY_NUMBER=&CONTAINER_NAME=&ITEM_LOT_NUMBER=&ITEM_DESC=constantine Half Argenteus&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_1=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_3=1&SEARCH_IN_CONTAINER_TYPE_ID_2=1&VIEW_TYPE=0
Yes, it is silver. I might bid in the $400 dollar range, but would really hope to get it for less. In Sear's "Roman Coins and Their Values" he gives a $500 value for a VF example. Try searching for other examples currently for sale, for example there is one on Vcoins now with the TR mintmark, but in a bit worse condition, with an asking price of $425.
