    Hi all,

I don't collect Nickels generally but I ended up with some in the bank rolls from 1964 in trade for some motorcycle parts. Is the soft strike that they all exibit standard for this year and mint? And some have a very mirror like field while others have a rougher but still very reflective surface, once again I'm in the dark as to how the grade is affected by any of these things. Here is an example that's a good representation of the lot.

    Thanks in advance.

196-D''s are super duper common, they are worth $0.05 each. almost 1.8 billion of them made...
    sorry :(

THE 1964 p&d both had semi or prooflike surfaces, five step coins are rare and the steps are always weak due to master hub wear this info is from the Jefferson nickel analyst by Bernard A Nagengast.

Yeah I'm aware of how commen they are, I'm just not sure of how to grade them. I'm not to concerned with the values.
Nope none of them have 5 steps.

The coin you posted would probably grade MS63.

Matt your are right you did ask about how to grade them I have 8 1964-d u n c Jefersons just like yours and at best they are au-58 to ms-60 and they have contact marks just like yours. When Jody or jtwax see your post they will be able to give you the best info on how to grade Jefferson nickels.

Nice nickel. I'd go along with MS-63 :D

I agree. It's a nice one but not a standout. It could go 64.

Thanks for the input everyone. I ended up with 25 rolls, I guess that I will have to look for exceptional strikes. And it appears that they all are 1964-D rolls.
