Hi, I'm having a lot of difficulty identifying these two coins. Was there a 2 Rial coin made by Iran in 1991? I've been able to determine the date of the Iranian coin as either 2524 or 2534. The other one is a mystery to me. If you have anyinsight into these coins, I'd appreciate your input. I have been unable to find a converter for converting arabic years to gregorian years. Most of the converters I have found are for months or days of the week. Is there a simple formula such as subtracting 581 from the arabic year? I've spent days looking for these two coins and have come up with zip. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks, Bill

Just plug in the Islamic date Muharram 1 of the year on the coin and it will convert to the first Gregorian date of that year. Remember, that since the Islamic year is 11 days shorter than a Gregorian non-leap year, the start of the Islamic year moves through the seasons.

Current Islamic year 1432 is equal to Gregorian 2010-578, but that factor slowly changes as the 11-day increments pile up.

This is painless. Enter the AH Year and it does the rest with a click.

Also, forgive me for recommending an actual book, but, the Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins has that calendar and a few others in the front.

Thankyou so much for the information. Would never have guessed OMAN. I still can't figure out the date on the first coin. I looked up the 1977 Rials, and it looks the same, but I just cant get the numbers to translate as 1397...I keep coming up with 2539. I am assuming the tiny figures below the wreath (below the denomination) is the year..If not, I don't know which one is the right one. Anyway, Thanks for all your help, I've now included the coins in my collection. The Oman coin is the first one I have from that country. Thanks Again, Bill
