Hi all I came across this strange one where on IN GOD you can see above it letters. Probably something zinc coins do but I had to check with the pros thanks. Sorry for the pictures I was shaking so bad if they are not good enough then my son will have to take them 1989 penny obv 1.jpg 1989 penny obv 3.jpg 1989 penny rev.jpg 1989 penny obv 5.jpg 1989 penny rev.jpg 1989 penny obv 3.jpg 1989 penny obv 1.jpg

Looks like a Die Deterioration issue.

But honestly your pictures are not sharp enough to better determine if it is something else.

Ya know, Laurie, you may have found something there. I'm going for rim restricted design duplication, which is a form of Mechanical Double (worthless doubling) but still a great find.

I thought it is our old nemesis " die deterioration" , however, since it is on obverse and reverse, both dies would have to have it (lesser chance) . An alternative would be intentional work with a very small jewelers file, . Jim

It's die deterioration. A ridge ring is one manifestation, and we see that in this case.
