I picked up this coin as part of a larger lot today. I usually dont purchase non-US coins but I liked the date and design. Am I correct with what I called this in the title? I am unable to find the mint mark in past sales and it looks like it could be worth $100+ and there are some worth thousands. Any ideas on this one?

Can you get photos of the edge? That would be helpful. The coin looks a little suspicious (looks like a cast). The reverse (side with the hat) at the top, the dendricles at the top are incomplete. Also there are a lot of bronze fakes that are silver plated. The color of this coin looks wrong, and the surface of the coin looks uneven.

That's a really nice cap n rays piece. Typical 1830's Zacatecas with weakly struck central features. This mint is probably the most common from this decade, but still an appealing coin worth around $40 in the raw. Well struck pieces are not common and bring a premium.

An interesting comment about this year/mint from the "Resplandores" reference on this series: "This is the worst year for planchet crudeness and porosity. Even high grade examples look terrible."
