Hello---whats a decent magnifier, around $20 range? Do I need 15,20x or more?
    Is it best to have a lighted one? Using a lighted 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 2 or 3x now. Plastic
    jobby that takes 2 AAA

For grading I would recommend 5X to 7X. For variety attribution and errors 10X is good. Hastings triplet design is best but I don't know if that will fit in your budget. An external light source is better for general use.

Welcome, hobo has it right on your magnifier questions. Those magnifiers with the built in led lights are funky and doesn't produce the best illumination for looking at your coins.

You're right kookoo, but they're great for use at shows where the lighting is often poor. I don't use mine at home where I can get a good source of light.
