Hello my is Jaimie, I live in australia. My wife was handed a wonderful necklace from her mother before she passed away. This Stirling Silver fob was my wife's great grand- mothers which was handed down to the eldest daughter. Along with other sentimental jewllery, we both are stuck in the history of this coin/token. I would be very grateful if any one out there in this world of ours can help us identify and value this coin/token. First glance it appears silver , however under magnification around the edges of the fob I can see gold colour. I have taken a couple of photos of this necklace to try and show what I can asking. On the head side is the inscription Emperador Maximilian with the bust facing right. On the reverse side, is an eagle facing left perched on his stand of some sort, with a half wreath at the bottom ,around the edge I can see gold colour. the inscription here reads:Estudos Unidos Mexicanos. I along with my wife have tried very hard to find out the history of this and if there is any value to it or is it junk. Please respond to Edited out Email Please use the forums Pm system Thankyou Regards Jaimie
Welcome to the neighborhood, Jaimie! I couldn't tell from your photos, and you didn't say, but if it doesn't indicate a denomination or have a date on it, it is probably just a medallion that was made for that piece of jewelry. Are you sure the inscription isn't Estados Unidos Mexicanos? Since you say it looks like there is a golden color around the edges of the holder, it may be silvered brass or bronze. It would be best to have a jeweler examine it to determine the composition. Chris
Hi Jamie unfortunatly not the best of pics, cant make out any detail on the actual object other than a face but I will hazard a guess that it is not a coin but a medal of some sort (unless it happens to have a value on it?) I edited out your email as people can respond to you via the forum PM system if they so wish
