SO I'm fixing to go thru these pennies, (SAVED for yrs) What dates would you suggest that I put aside?? I DO NOT have any wheats in there.... ALSO I have this NICE 1975 dime and I am hunting for a few coins to submit SO do you send in coins that are nice? OR just ones they may be errors? I TRULY am a beginner and would like advice, YES I will show you guys bf I submit anything!!! THIS MOMMA NEEDS A NEW PAIR OF SHOES so to speak. This is too addicting and I haven't found the treasure YET BUT I WILL!!!!
Modern pennies I'd save the 2009 Lincolns if they are in decent condition. However, there are several die varieties worth looking for consult any recent edition of the Redbook.
There is another interesting variety of 1 cent coins which is the 2017 P- those are interesting. I don't think they have much value, but are unique because there was never a P mintmark on pennies. Also, unless a coin is worth a significant amount, it's not worth submitting.
@Smiley LI Your chances of finding anything valuable from circulation are slim, slimmer, slimmest and none! What you need to do is learn how to grade so you can determine if the condition of a coin merits submitting to one of the TPG services. Even that is conditional because the value of the coin has to be sufficient to cover expenses while still making a profit for you. Personally, I think you should just enjoy coin collecting for what it is.....a fun hobby. If you want to make money, get a job. Chris
Do you have a Red Book? If not, I suggest you buy one and read up the coins of your interest. The Cherry Pickers Guide is also recommended. As for values, go to PCGS coin prices and also look on eBay for sales of coins like yours. As for your dime; just a normal circulated dime. A spender IMO. Good luck.
The chance of finding a coin of high value from the last 70 years is extremely small, like one would have a better chance in a LOTTO drawing. Yes occasionally someone wins a drawing that is worth more the price to get a coin graded, but if one has plenty of time, a good magnifier, scale, and some references on varieties and errors ( Google) for example here is one with error coins cents only https://coppercoins.com/ on left column click on " Search the site", and you can put in the coin info and it will show large nice photos to compare, also http://www.lincolncentresource.com/ which more and also lists of top 50, etc. again just for lincoln cents. Look at the top 50 list, they will be worth more. It does take dedication and lots of time to learn. Jim
Did you get this idea from YouTube or some ad heavy web page ? Submitting a coin is an expensive endeavor. Thus you have to make sure that it would be financial worth it. We see people submit junk pocket change, and get back slabbed junk pocket change worth fractions of what they spent.
Thank you Jim for being nice. I have to stay at home now bc of brain surgeries and disabled. I love doing this and yes I am looking for that special coin too...… BUT NO NEED FOR UGLINESS I will find something n I am learning. New to this..... THANK YOU for all your info you provided IT WILL HELP.... I sppreciate it VERY MUCH!!!
I'm not trying to be mean, just realistic. Your posts have been all over the place, and "Momma needs a new pair of shoes!" doesn't get it. Chris
