I purchased this from someone who said it was a "medium" relief. Well after some research, I found out there are a only low and high reliefs. Looking for someone who knows the difference and how much it's worth.
Also,,, Also it stated something about the palm tree and key being worn on one of the reliefs. Can't remember which though.
Nice looking coin. Kinda looks like it may have been cleaned. The pics show surface pitting. There is a similar 20 posted on the World Coin forum. You can search for it using - cuba If I may ask, how much did ya pay for it??
It's not cleaned. I don't see "pitting" on the coin, I think it is close to being:goofer: uncirculated.
Did a little research on your coin. The best way to tell the varity is to count the reeds. "Fine reeding” coins have 146 reeds and “coarse reeding” ones have 114 reeds. The fine reeding/low relief is the pricey varity. Yours appears to be the course reeding/high relief. I would grade at XF details, but give VF since it has been cleaned. Worth about $10 USA
I believe there is no authority who can properly identify high and low relief 1915 20 centavo coins with certainty. I have searched the web for years and see one coin graded as high relief by one grading company then see the same condition graded as low relief, ie. the grade is in the eye of the beholder. There seems to be many variations extant which, I suspect, blurs the lines of the high/low relief issue so, how does one make the determination of high/low for their coin? View every photo available, compare your coin and use the consensus relief that most approximates the one you have.
Using the pictures you provided, I have viewed your coin and assuming it has not been cleaned, my opinion is the condition exhibits AU55. As far as the star relief is concerned, I believe you have a low star relief coarse reeded coin. I base this on the majority opinion that low star relief coins exhibit strongly defined valleys between each leg of the star where they join in the center. The pic. of the edge suggests coarse reeding. I hope this helps.
A follow to my post of Sep 4, 2018. There is talk of identifying an additional grade of star relief (Medium) which may cover those coins which fall in between the high and low star relief. Those coins which exhibit both defined valleys and rounded valleys may fall into this new category; however, much research is still to be done.
