Hi all, I am Nick, from Chicago. I joined the forum a long time ago and then never really got a feel for it or participated really. Mat convinced me to spend some time here and read some posts. So far, I must admit, I really enjoy the threads. A lot of folks here seem to collect the same price level and types of things that I like. I thought it would be proper to introduce myself. I'm in my late 30's, have a daughter who amuses me by being relatively amused with coins herself (she's 12, what can you do?) and a fiance who likes that I have something positive to keep my interest. I've collected since I was a kid with various time off for girlfriends and being cool. My main focus now is on ancients, mostly silver and bronze from the later period like denarii, antoninianii and AE3s and AE4s. I have a 12 Caesars set that is kind of stalled out for lack of coins at the right price and quality and some earlier issues too from closer to the beginning of the Empire. Lately I have been working on a specific legend/mintmark combinations of the Constantinian dynasty and Emperor Probus. I also have substantial Russian Empire and British India sets and a decent start on English copper from GVI backwards in time. I hope that if you are inclined that you will say hello! Thanks for welcoming me to the forum!
Hello! Welcome, and we would love to see some of your coins/collection. If you've read through the threads, you will know I am a bottom feeder (in general) and I seem to be concentration on RR coins at the moment. Steve? Who is Steve? Never mind him. He is like one of those pesky gnats that just keeps busy around your ear (only jokes little brother).
Welcome Nick! I joined this forum last year, and have enjoyed sharing with others who share a similar collecting interest. You will find some incredibly knowledgeable people here, so they are a great resource when you have questions. I collect both Greek and Roman coins, but my major collecting interest is the Roman Republic, with a special fondness for pre-denarius coinage.
Hello nick. Welcome to CT. I collect coins of the imperatorial period and the first 100 or so years of the empire. Looking forward to seeing some of your coins.
Welcome. I hope you will find a good fit for your needs here but do realize that there is (1) no 'right' answer to most questions about collecting ancients and (2) no shortage of people who will tell you that you are doing it wrong. This is a good place to come armed with a sense of humor and both the willingness to ask questions and to accept a variety of answers. Do not complain about your daughter. I have a 13 y.o. grandson who could make me very happy by showing even the slightest interest in the coins I have gathered over the last 50 years. Consider yourself fortunate to have a fiance who thinks of coins as something even remotely understandable. Others have introduced themselves so I'll offer my online introduction: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/ Please start participating by posting images of some of your favorite coins and telling us why they insisted they were something you needed. We like to help when we can but, most of all, we like to see coins (and have an excuse for showing some of ours).
welcome aboard! I like Russian coins also, I don't collet them (when some one say that here, it means that do), but here is my last one..I like 'em big. here's my last probus, kind of weak but from a mint I wanted.. PROBUS (276-282). Antoninianus. Ticinum. Obv: IMP C PROBVS P F AVG. Radiate and cuirassed bust right. Rev: FIDES MILIT / VIXXT. Fides standing left, holding standard in each hand. RIC 365. 24 mm, 3.4 g
Welcome! With your collecting interests it sounds like you'll be right at home here. As others have already said, we like seeing coins, so I hope we'll see some of yours soon. For starters, how about something that recently joined your collection.
Welcome from France Nick I've been a member here for ten years now, but have to say that the opening of an "ancient coins section" and the arrival of certain funny folks have greatly enhanced the interest I have for CT lately. Now I feel here at home (or at the pub) and visit on a daily basis Best Q
Howdy Nick! Welcome to the Menagerie. Folks here are knowledgeable, helpful, and have a good sense of humor. Like @ancientcoinguru , I collect Roman Republican coinage too. So should you have questions about the Empire, I am not as versed. I do enjoy the HISTORY of all the ancient world, but my collecting focus is still Res Publica! I also dabble in Ancient Indian, Greek, Chinese, AEgyption, Celtic, and some fun other areas. I am good friends with Mat too...so WELCOME! Teach us about some of YOUR cool coins!
