Hi everyone, I have really no knowledge about coins besides their face value. I was rolling change today and came across a nickel that was missing its "heads" side. The "tails" side has the normal E PLURIBUS UNUM, MONTICELLO, FIVE CENTS, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on it. The missing "heads" side is smooth to the touch with a sort of circular line pattern (not really sure how to better describe it). I was hoping someone could take a look at the pictures I took of both sides and let me know if I have something worth more than 5 cents or if somebody may have just sanded off the face side. Thanks! -arielle0409
PMD Appears to have been ground down by a grinding wheel, or perhaps orbital sander. The lines and "frayed" edges are giveaways. Wouldn't be shocked if the value was even below $0.05, due to someone not accepting it.
thats what i was thinking, but its really smooth to the touch. it looks like it would feel, for lack of a better word, scratchy.
You appear to have half of a magician's coin. The other half would have been hollowed out a bit (basically a secret compartment) and fit rather closely to this half. Where they tend to cost anywhere from $10-$20 each, they often end up in circulation (but the most "common" variety by roll are 50-cent pieces).
