If you live in, live near, have ever lived in Illinois or have relatives in or have lived in Illinois, you may be rich and not know it. Maybe not rich, but you could have some money coming and never know about how much or what it could be. The reason: Today the Chicago Tribune newspaper came out with their annual list of monetary items forgotten or abandoned in Illinois. They may be property, abandoned lockers or sheds or even houses and/or land. In many instances there are abandoned bank safe deposit boxes due to no one paying for them or just not available to answer request for payments. Regardless, the very large section of about 45 pages of very small print has virtually Billions of dollars worth of valuables that could be yours.
A similar listing is published periodically in that newspaper. This issue only contains info reported since August 2007. To search the state’s entire database, visit www.treasurer.il.gov and follow the cash dash link.
Periodically there is an auction of all such items at the state of Illinois Building in the downtown area of Chicago. Lots and lots of coins from safe deposit boxes.
