Evening People. Have any of you done something like this? You've got a brand new mint set in the mail and you're cracking out the individual coins to fill your albums and as you're cracking out the presidential dollars you see one that has no edge lettering. You start dancing around the room and whooping it up when all of a sudden you realize....it's not a presidental dollar...it's a sac....something like this ever happen to you?
Well I once was looking at some coins I had when I was a kid , an '83 V nickle no cents , I looked at the population reports and noticed I had the one with the smaller mintage , So I got really excited that it was worth a few bucks more , then I realised my mistake , well live and learn . rzage
well there was this time i thought i was talking to my friend green real nice bloke if there ever was one and then i said green what do you think of this coin and he said my name is harvey .... i didnt realize i was talking to a different person
Looking through the 1999 cent pile i had, for the wide am and picked up a really nice BU. Looked at the am and it was wide, double checked, tripple checked. Called the girlfriend in and was getting all excited. She then turned it over and revealed to me that it was a 92 that somehow got mixed in with the 99's.
I did almost the same thing. While looking sideways at the coins in the packaging I spotted the coin with no edge lettering and I got excited (relatively) until I realized what I did. Got the old heart thumping for a minute or two. Bruce
I bought a seriously "disturbed/challenged" Capped Bust Half-Cent and when I was trying to figure out what date it was, I thought I saw a "6" at the end and I swear my heart stopped beating for several seconds, then I starting doing the Victory Dance (aka: Church Lady Dance), then I started looking at reverses of the Capped Bust Half-Cents and realized it was a 1795 C-6a. While it sucked it wasn't a 1796, I will never forget the feeling! :thumb: Ribbit
This is embarrassing because I did it after you started this thread. I found the following auction on Heritage and immediately recognized the serial number and knew that I owned the coin. I was convinced that someone had stolen my coin and consigned it to a Heritage auction. I actually had already dialed the number on my phone to report the coin stolen before I realized that the coin was a different grade. Check out the two serial numbers. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?SaleNo=1117&LotIdNo=3658
