I wish the first option, "I am purchasing more because coins are a store of wealth", could have included the words "because I think the country is headed to failure" like I used in the very last option, but I was limited to 100 characters.
I'm tryng to load up on key dates, I don't know if they've experienced a dip across the board, but the rate of acceleration of their value seems to have slowed.
I am purchasing less because I have other financial goals (financial goal = becoming debt free) that I am concentrating more of my income on. I will never give up my collecting because it makes me happy and I enjoy it but I just decided to cut back until I become completely debt free. Once I become debt-free, then I can spend more of my discretionary income on my collecting.
The "married with 3 kids" thing affects my disposable income more than the sorry state of the economy.....
Buying less coins and spending it on silver bullion, because I think inflation is coming and I want to secure the value of my money. But thats me. Steve
Since I only started collecting in mid 2009, of course I am purchasing more, and since many collectors have had to sell parts of their collection I am probably getting better prices than if the economy was going full steam ahead. I am collecting not because of any big picture reason, but because my father collected coins and collecting them myself helps me to feel a connection to him.
the recession has not affected me at all (knock on wood) ... i am lucky enough to (still) have 2 great jobs ... i was in all cash for the stock market crash of 08 and 09 ... my house is paid off ... car is paid off ... no credit card debt ... so i actually have more money now than ever before in my life ... i am 53 and hope to retire in 9 years (we'll see on that one) however one thing has affected by coin buying ... the increasing number and quality of counterfeit coins and slabs i probably would have bought more coins if not for my eyeballing everything and wondering ... is it real? sadly, it's sort of taken the fun out of the hobby for me. has anyone else been affected by all the counterfeits out there?
I am buying about the same as before except that I just bought a Refrigerator and microwave today so I will be spending a little less in the coming months till I have paid off...Gotta make sure I (and the family) stay on top of my (our) credit so that one day we can buy a real house
Until about two months ago I was buy more for both reasons stated, but a couple unforseen family problems have put me in the same/cant afford catagory... learning patience is tough...
I havent been affected at all by the recession, but I'm still lucky to have a job in the medical assistant field and am not in debt so I have the money to continue to buy. If anything the recession has made me more money from the rise of silver prices.
My coin purchasing has increased, but only because I just started about eight months ago. I live in an area of the country that is pretty stable, we don't grow too quickly in boom times and so there is not to far to fall when recessions hit.
Didn't have a job before the recession. Don't have one now. My income comes off of previous sales from previous buys and current flips. My coin buying has actually increased!
