I sold a silver three cent piece on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&item=320373402214 This morning payment came and I went to ship it. I had that particular coin on a tray on a credenza on my desk. It was not in a holder because I took it out of one to photograph it. So, I picked it up and was about to sit back down in my chair to put it in a 2 X 2 when it slipped out of my hand. When it fell I lost sight of it but heard a small "clink" from where it hit the corner of my desk. It shot out somewhere and where it landed I do not know. I spent about 30 mins on my hands and knees with a flashlight trying to find it. I can't! As I sit here typing, I know that the damn thing is within 3 feet of where I sit, yet I couldnt produce it of you held a gun to my head. :headbang: What should I do? BD
Keep looking.....we'll wish you luck. And yes, it has happened to me. It is amazing what can happen and how far it can travel. It may have rolled...
Go away locking the room have a cup of offee or tea relax and then go back and tear the place apart and yes I have had the joy's of this experience LOL
Yikes -- something like that _has_ happened to me -- but it was a coin I had purchased, not sold. It was an MS modern Jeff Nickel -- I'm sure it cost me less than $1 -- I had purchased a bunch of them. I was sitting on my kitchen table, and when I opened the inside wrapper, they fell out, and one of them fell off the table -- clink!! My story doesn't have a good ending. I never found that coin. The good news for me is that I'm out less than $1. I wish I had better words to offer . . . other than I can share (a little bit) in your frustration. And -- gulp -- good luck convincing the buyer what happened . . .
This coin is destined not reappear until immediately after I issue the guy a refund. What I am going to offer him is to pick another one listed as a buy it now for uo to $10 more and buy it for him. Hopefully that will satisfy him.
Offer him the option of waiting a short while so that you can have a good search, a full refund or the higher value coin
Why guess what will satisfy the buyer? My advice to you is to contact the buyer first, and see what they want to do. You don't want to get stuck with another 3 cent piece that he/she isn't interested in.
I am going to bend over backwards (and forwards) probably to make him happy. But, that is an offer I thought of that will hopefully work. If he wants to do something else than we will. I emailed him and told him what happened, waiting for him to get back to me. This is so annoying! I hate silver three cent pieces! Second bad experience I have had with one on ebay. The last time I sold one, a buyer complained because he didnt realize they were so small!
Surely another search will find your coin. It HAS to be there unless you have coin eating pets around....
I currently have a $1 gold coin MIA for the same reason. :goofer: I was standing under the overhead light and examining it with a magnifying glass when it slipped out of my hand, hit the toe of my shoe and disappeared. I have searched and searched and I know it's here somewhere but I still haven't found it and that was 4 months ago. :goof: It's getting close to spring cleaning day so I hope to find it then. Ribbit
You found it yet??? Well, if I was the buyer, my first thought, was you didn't even have the coin in the first place, if this was my first time dealing with you, I'd never deal with you again That is just me But from a sellers point of view, and if you are telling the truth (which I know you are) then you did the right thing, emailing him explaining what happened, asking for more time, or giving an option on another coin, or a full refund. You did the right thing, and to answer the question asked in the thread, no, this has not happened to me, YET, and I'm hoping it doesn't.. My best advice, SELL THE THREE CENT PIECES THAT YOU CAN STILL SEE! lol
Sorry, I know how you feel. I have a MIA 1870 Indian Head Cent, a nice XF coin. It's here somewhere, but that's the problem, SOMEWHERE! A few weeks back I won a IHC on EBay, a reasonable buy, the seller emailed me that he couldn't find it to send to me. He was a top notch seller, with a perfect feedback and great references from buyers. He was in the path of a tornado in MO and had to evacuate his house quickly. He promised to email me when/if it turns up and he relists. He was open and honest with me. Good communication is the key. We agreed to cancel the auction. Hey sometimes, as Forest says, stuff happens :smile
