I hope it don't sound too dumb but I like this coin. In fact it's one of my favorite Mexican coins b/c of the Cuauhtemoc. thx

Has this coin been cleaned? Does anyone know how they got the oil looking effect happening?

I always liked the cinco pesos from the forties and fifties, really cool coins!

It doesn't look harshly cleaned at first glance. Though it may have been cleaned and a coating applied to hide any signs of it. try putting in distilled water to see if anything comes off. you could try some olive oil and or acetone, also. be sure to rinse well with distilled water after.

Let us know of the results.

It appears it's been cleaned, but not harshly. At least not that I can see in the pics. It does appear to have some PVC still on the coin. If you haven't bought it already - don't.

Difficult to really tell if cleaned. If you have that coin, do not put in Olive Oil, Acetone, etc. Leave well enough alone. If you purchased that coin, how much was it? I really don't mind cleaned coins if the price is right.
