I recently purchased this 1871 seated liberty half dollar online. It has been graded VF 25 by NGC. To me this coin looks like it has been cleaned. Is it cleaned or I am wrong? Any opinions will be appreciated.
I'm sure it has many times in it's almost 150 years of exisitance but it does not look harshly cleaned and I see no reason for it to have a details grade from that photo. I say Nice Coin, IMO.
The coin does appear cleaned. However, it is not bad, and I can see why NGC gave it the nod as market acceptable. If you don't like the coin, send it back....Mike
NO. It has been authenticated and graded by one of the top two grading companies. I agree with the assigned grade and the majority of knowledgeable collectors will also.
I like this coin. To me this is a rare coin. Rare in the fact that as a collector it is hard to find old type coins in lower collectable grades (g-vf) that are not key dates that have been slabbed by PCGS or NGC. I don't know if you paid a fair price but I have found it difficult to get lower Seated or Bust Dollars and halves that are slabbed. I have look many times for a common seated $1 finally bought one raw. The dealer I bought it off of told me that many of them are fakes, however seing this dealer many times at ISNA show and others I trusted him. I would take this anyday over and MS70 slabbed modern proof. Lack
