I got this 2 cent piece at the coin shop. I think it might have been cleaned at one time. What do you think? The reason I bought it, was because it is a 90 degree rotated die error. Thanks, Charlie
looks like it probably has been cleaned at one time but on the bright side,it is toning up nicely, and evenly with just a tiny bit of streaking. Uncleaned coins from this period are generally a dark bronze/brown color but there are numerous factors that can change this.
It appears to have been dipped at one time. This kind of cleaning does not really hurt the value of the coin. If a grading company catches the cleaning, they will just label it as rescolored like they do for IHC.
Considering its age, and the fact that the anti-cleaning crusade is of more recent vintage, the odds are that it has been cleaned at least once in the last 140 years.
Difficult to say. If so, probably many years ago. Really nice coin. You should have shown it so as to notice the rotation. Would have been interesting to note the amount of rotation.
I really like that coin. Now we have to send you to photo school 101. Try taking photos outside for better lighting. Set the coin on someones car that is dark in color. Don't use yours or your parents though because of possible scratches. Can't quite make out the coins with that lighting.
