Has anyone used OpenNumismat (1.9.5) for cataloging their collection? I was curious on how well it functions. I prefer to keep my current cataloging method but as my collection grows I need a better way of tracking the coins I purchase and sell for insurance purposes. https://opennumismat.github.io/open-numismat/ Tell me what you think.
I haven't used OpenNumismat although I have checked it out. I have used Coin Organizer deluxe for several years following a free trial. It has more facilities than I will ever use and stores most data you could conceivably want to store including images , dealers, notes etc. Here is the link https://www.primasoft.com/advantage-organizer/coin-organizer-advantage.htm I used to use an Xcel spreadsheet but was not adroit enough to use it properly and after a couple of disasters of my own making , gave it up. My only criticism is that it is not on the Cloud yet, although apparently this is on the way, so access unless you have the PC you use with you, is not possible when away from home. Here are a couple of screenshots.
I will give this a try. I don't have time to drudge thru creating an Excel spreadsheet or a software database from scratch. I prefer a stand alone package where data is stored on my computer, I don't trust anyone with "storing" my information.
I haven't tried this, but have tried several others on the market. In the end I decided on Exact Change and have been very happy with it. I've been using it for ~10 years now.
I use OpenNumismatist and enjoy it. It does a good job of managing my collection and has integrations with sites like numista and similar reference sites.
I use CollecOnline and the Forum Ancient Coins Member's Gallery. Both have their advantages/disadvantages.
I launched Tantalus nearly 20 years ago as a means to host a collection in the cloud. Although it's definitely showing its age it's still leagues ahead of Excel in terms of capability (and it's optimized for ancient coins in particular). Give it a whirl, it's free. Rasiel
Thank you, just entered my first couple and it's a thumbs up from me. Twenty years ago it would have been a wondrous thing indeed!
