Has anyone ever heard of this catalog?

I found an EBay listing for a Japanese-occupied Chinese coin, with an incorrect description, so I asked the seller where he got the information, and he said "Simon and Schuster". It was an East Hopei 1 chiao, listed as an East Hopei 20 cent.[IMG]

A short stint on Google turned up The Simon and Schuster World Coin Catalogue, Twentieth Century 1986-87 Edition, which seems to be the latest edition.

Used copies are available pretty cheap on Amazon, but since all I know about it is that it has at least one wildly erroneous listing, I was wondering if anyone is familiar with it and knows whether that was typical. [IMG]

They are a publishing house - nothing more or less. They have produced books, catalogs and encyclopedias on just about every subject known to man. I wouldn't put a lot of faith in a coin catalog by them as they don't specialize in the subject.

I have a 1979-80 edition and its been useful as a worthy supplement to Krause especially in its much more detailed descriptions of the designs on many of the coins. If you can get one for under $10 I'd say its well worth it.
