First one of these DDR's found in over 4000 coins.Strong doubling found in the first window array. Wexler seems to be backed up right now, intend on sending this one in as soon as he returns the ones he already has.
I'm sure it will if I can get it in to Wexler. John's email last week indicated he was behind. He received my last shipment of coins two weeks ago. Right now from what I can tell on his site he only has one other one listed. And it doesn't look anything like this one.
you should see all the varieties on ebay.(not mine) but it will give you an idea how many varieties are already found. wonder if it will be like the homesteads.
I can only speak on my behalf. So far have gone through about 5000. And I've only found one so far correction just found another one. They seem to start showing up at least in South Florida recently. Even though I started going through a whole box a couple months ago. Just at the beginning of this month I have started coming across some of these doubled dies. All I can figure is this is a later production run. Also just found my first 2016 Teddy p. And as far as eBay have you noticed a lot of them don't even know what they have. Which is quite normal for eBay. I'm sure this time goes on a lot more errors are going to start showing up. Thank you for your reply.
Well after going through a box of quarters. This Harpers Ferry seems like it's going to go the way of the homesteads as far as the DDR's are concerned. This is my opinion for what it's worth. I would say finding over a roll of DDR's is a good start.USMC60
that's definitely a good start. you should post some of the more evident varieties to give others an idea what is out there floating around.
I don't know about you but have you tried photographing some of these Harpers Ferry doubled dies. First off I don't really know what I'm doing. Second I'm using a very low end photographing system. Not willing to put out 3500 for a new photography system. This old Marine will figure it out somehow.I will see what I can do. Just found one in the last roll of the box. Not only is it a DD but it also has four very nice chips and major cracks. As soon as I can get some recognizable photos I'll post them.
yes I have. the only thing difficult about them is fighting the shine. if your "3500" refers to $3,500...then you are not smart shopping. I got my usb microscope for $30 on ebay and works amazing. you don't need to spend a small fortune to make one.
You basically hit it right on the nose the shine is the major culprit. I totally agree with you on my low in camera that I also purchased on eBay. For a few dollars less than 30. It has done quite adequate job for CT. And as far as $3500 I was basically referring to aim scope microscope with camera. I know there's many other options out there. But like I have mentioned on other threads my set up is quite convenient for what I doing. Especially when it comes to comparing doubled dies being able to put the coin that I'm examining up to a photograph of one that's already been verified. The photos below will show you exactly what I mean.USMC60
Check that out it's a nice one. Wait until about the end of next week. Wexler should start listing at least five new ones that I know because the ones I sent in he presently doesn't have a listing on them. So unless any of the others that are ahead of me has the ones I have they will get first listing. And I know you had questions on your thread. Wexler has his listings and I'm pretty sure Potter has his. So far I have over a roll. And out of that role at least a quarter of them are the same. And so far from what I seen on your response on your DDR. I personally think that some members has lost their sense of adventure and enjoying new things that come in to our world. But that's their loss. Right now personally I have 70% of Wexler's listing for the homesteads, I've already been in discussion with John as far as certifying the collection once I get it all together. All I know is that a full collection certified. I personally am not going to sell it cheap.I know you can by these fairly cheap prices. And I'm sure I'm not the only one starting collections of these new DDR's. Went to the bank on Monday picked up a box. Told the teller exactly what to look for as far as the boxes of quarters they have in the vault. At least down here in South Florida. Loomis rolls a lot of coins for the banks. It seems when they get a new batch of quarters in their facility. They have a tendency to put them in a different kind of box from the circulated coin roll quarters. Monday I asked the teller to look for the box with the circulated holes. I got lucky the only box they had in the vault was one with the holes. It ended up that box of 2000 Harpers Ferry's.So far that box does not look good for DDR's. Gone through about 200. The only thing I found was a chip up in the buildings roof pillar. Needless to say not too happy about the results. This box looks like another box I went through a couple months ago. A lot of chips no DDR's. I only have 1800 to go.
so in other words...you have one very similar to mine. have you tried lowering it so it almost touching a coin and then slowly spinning the wheel in both directions to it's max? you should be able to take a close up picture pretty easily. pictures 1, 2, and 4 are 3 different magnifications from the same unit. the 3rd picture is the same as the 2nd except I opened it with paint, cropped the target area, and increased it's magnification to 200% giving a larger image which is easier for you to explain and others understand. play around with yours and see what it has. then we can see those wonders you found
Is that Celestron USB microscope? I have one but have not been able get rid of glare, titling the helps but I still get glare. Also, I am unable to adjust the white balance. Long time (on and off) coin collector but I am new at photographing coins. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Believe me close-ups are not my problem. If I really want to get into magnification I can bring out my aimscope and get up to 750 magnification. But I found out in the beginning members don't appreciate those close-ups.Getting close-up is not the problem. It boils down to the position of the coin, and lighting. It's just like my photo of the gold eagle quarter. Sometimes everything goes right and you get a good pic.And this quarter was also in the mint issued sealed capsule. Believe me it's been a work in progress ever since I started I'm learning something new every day.
I really don't know what brand it is. It's just one I picked up on eBay so I could start taking photos of coins when I join CT. Had a lot of problems at first. Camera software would not work with Windows. Windows software at the time would not recognize camera. That started the search on the Internet for USB camera software. It ended up after I finally went to Windows 10 the software started accepting the USB camera. That was my first encounter with this camera for about a month. Finally got it working figured out a lot of the tricks here and there and am still learning some. Well if you got it working on your computer that's a start. Now as far as the glare you have to go to an alternate light source. Sometimes the LEDs in the camera will work to your advantage but most of the time they don't. I'll show you one I picked up for under $10 it's battery-operated and you can position it anywhere around the coin you want. And yes it has an LED light but a little frosted scotch tape will give you a filter on that light. Like I said there's all kinds of tricks. All I'll say is just be creative be willing to try new things to achieve the photo you desire.
Exactly what type of coin photography do you wish to do? Some of these USB "scopes" can do a decent job or suffice in a pinch, but there are much better options that cost nowhere near the earlier mentioned figure. The thing is that the best setup for you may not be the best for the next guy, and is why I asked about your imaging desires.
Honestly I'm not out to win any awards. I feel as long as I can display an error the best I can with what I have I'm happy with it. Believe me I keep up to date on what's available. It keeps changing it seems every month. Right now I'm happy with what I have. And if you get the lighting right the HD is excellent.
If happy with what you use, that's great. However, I quoted, was talking to, and my questions were for Mr. Gallego.
