I found a 1982 edition of the SCWC online for less than $10. it arrived yesterday and I was surprised to find that it was hardback. Were these catalogs ever published as hardback or is this a library binding (the book was ex-library)?
I bought a copy of this in 1982 and it was softcover like the current volumes. At the time, I was picking pre-1850 world minors out of junk boxes and trying to ID them. I had been using Craig and SCWC was a big upgrade. There was an ANA centennial 2 volume set in 1992 that was published in Hard Cover (I bought that too). Kids today don't know how lucky the have it. There is so much info that is available with just a few key strokes. Back in the old days, if it wasn't in the Redbook, it was difficult to find information. Now, get off my lawn!!.
The 1985 was also hardbound as a two volume set in a slipcase. If I remember correctly that was when they split the book into 19th and 20th century books. Before that it was one book, after that they were separate volumes.
I'd be interested to see a picture of it. At my library we carry the the SCWC, however they are soft cover (we laminate the covers however to help them last longer).
My copy of Standard Catalog of World Gold Coins, copyright 2000, is hardback. And I bought it directly from Krause.
Not too exciting. It is a plain red cover, which is what makes me think it is library bound. I have other editions which are ex-library and they all have laminated covers.
