To all Americans, hope you enjoy your festivities. From across the Atlantic. Post your commemoratives, tokens or medals UNITED STATES. Bronze Medallion, commemorating American Revolution, Bicentenial in Connecticut, dated 1976. Choice EF. 40mm, 23 grams.
Just don’t seem right to not fly a flag on the 4th. So i thought this post would be the best place for this day’s celebration.
The Vermont Bennington Battle Day medal This piece celebrated a battle that was fought in conjunction with the Battle of Saratoga, which historians credit as the turning point in the American Revolutionary War. The British Army was sort on supplies and sent out a party retrieve some. They met a contingent of American militiamen who dealt them a stinging defeat. In what seemed like a small battle, the British lost 10 percent of their forces. Fay's Tavern appears on the reverse of this piece. It was the place where the patriots went to plot their strategies and have some drinks. It burned in the 19th century. The tavern was proposed for the reverse of the Vermont commemorative half dollar, but the design was rejected. The catamount was placed on the reverse of the coin instead.
I was under the impression that you were an American abroad, but maybe I have that wrong and read that in by your tag. In any regard, thank you from Hammonasset Beach in Connecticut (fitting coin selection). I’m back to work tomorrow but enjoying this gap day in the week to catch up with our Founders (reading a good book on the US Constitution).
There's a book called Miracle in Philadelphia that I highly recommend to anyone interested in how the Constitution was made.
Thank you for the recommendation. I have 2 books (one is Madison’s notes) and this is the third book I’m reading now. As another coincidence, Hammonasset is located in Madison CT, named after James.
Just another day to do biz or whatever I need to do, then at night see how people fire off fireworks within the city limits and see how many get drunk.
I happen to live in what is called a suburb, And a person can hear the parties with their ears. Well, put all of those together, ok? And you begin to arrive at the idea that one can tell when other people in the surrounding houses are having a party and can gather who is inebriated and so on. And during the day I do whatever I need to.
I am English but left that country behind. After military service, adapting to civilian life there was difficult. I have lived in Spain for 21 years now.
There you go. An expat of a different origin. I hear from friends of the family that just recently closed on their second home in Spain that once you visit, you want to stay. Their plan is to retire there and enjoy the vibe and the wine. I have yet to visit your new homeland, but from what I see from their photos and smiles, I will not be disappointed!
