Happy 115th birthday, Grammy!

    Today (January 14th) would have marked the 115th birthday of my paternal grandmother, Jean Norton Shinnick (1911-1980). She was a talented painter and a wonderful grandmother.

    Here is a portrait Grammy painted of me in 1968, when I was not quite three years old. I swear I remember sitting for it, in my wooden highchair, though perhaps I’m confusing that with a later sitting. I do remember being told to sit still. She worked in watercolors a lot, but this is an oil painting, of course.
