Happen at the mint?

    I just like the pattern on this penny. Not sure if it happened at the mint or something post mint. Just thought I would share the photo.

    Hard to imagine how that could happen post mint if it is impressed into the planket.

    Or is it's just a pigment change?

    Mixture problem. Some call it a 'wood grain' coin or something like that.

    I'd guess post mint. If it were in the planchet when the coin was struck the lines would not have remained so straight across.
