I RECENTLY FOUND A HAMMERED SILVER COIN in THE UK, YORKSHIRE, IT HAS A SHEILD ON ONE SIDE WITH WHAT LOOKS LIKE A LION RAMPANT INSIDE, THE LEGEND READS E+DVXBRA ?????. THE REVERSE IS A VOIDED LONG CROSS WITH A LETTER T IN ONE QUARTER AND LETTERS ? IN THE OTHER QUARTERS. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS COIN IS AND THE DATE. THANK YOU

It doesn't sound very familiar to me.

Where abouts in the UK did you find it? Anywhere near Scotland?

I can't be sure without a picture, but your coin sounds very much like a 'Brabantini' or Brabant long cross esterling from the low countries (Belgium, Netherlands etc) and was minted around the 1270's and 1280's. a good find.

    Regards,

    PAB.

I do not know of any web sites but a Google search might do the trick. My source is the book 'Sterling Imitations of Edwardian Type by N J Mayhew published by the Royal Numismatic Society. I think it is still available from specialist dealers. hope this is of some use.

    regards,

    PAB.

WHAT A GREAT BUNCH OF GUY YOU ARE ON THIS WEBSITE, THANKS TO THOSE WHO HELPED ME OUT I HAVE IDENTIFIED THE COIN THROUGH THE LION ON THE FRONT WHICH IS THE LION OF BRABANT, THE COIN IS THAT OF JAN I THE VICTORIOUS 1268-1294 BRUSSELS MINT (i now have the complete history of this person for my records). I CANT SEEM TO FIND ONE OF THESE FOR SALE ANYWHERE ON THE NET AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE VALUE FOR MY OWN RECORDS, I DON'T SELL MY FINDS BUT KEEP A DETAILED ACCOUNT OF THE HISTORY OF EACH COIN AND ITS CURRENT VALUE, IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME OUT THAT WOULD BE GREAT

Finding values for coins like is difficult to say the least. But you may wish to contact some of the folks found on this web site - VCoins If anybody knows - they will. Try the link in the top left corner first - CIVITAS - send them an email. But they are still gonna want a pic of the coin.
