I wish I could show everyone this coin in hand the color and luster explode off of the surfaces.

This coin is valued at $115 by PCGS Price Guide. There is no way you'll sell this at even $200. I see this coin is priceless to you but how can we get a fair value of coins like this? I'm sorry I'm still very much attached the investment values of coins. How can anyone project how much this coin is going to be worth in 10 years? Can this tone be even artificial?

 

I don't see anything about a price on this coin? Where you getting your information?

There is really not a way to put a price on what a coin like this will sell for. On the right day, at auction, anything is possible. Pretty coins can bring crazy prices.

 

Man, I love purple pennies. I have a Dansco just for those. I don't know how many of mine are AT, but they are beautiful.

Yes, it's a beautiful coin. I'd have no problem giving out more than the listed $115 for a coin that beautiful. Not all 64s are alike!

Define what you mean by "artificial" and I'll tell you.

 

If you DO SOMETHING TO THE COIN, like spray some chemical, heat it up or wrap it with some reactive agent.. rather than just leave it alone and the coin gets toned just by reacting to the air surrounding it.

 

We can't say it's artificial based on your definition. This reacted with something surrounding it but how do we know what? MS70 will turn copper blue but how do we know that's what? Of course, we can guess. That leaves us with this question, "Is that how we should determine if we like toning?" I guess.

 

It doesn't really matter how it toned, it all comes down to market acceptability and this type of toning is accepted.

 

1. Pcgs guide is $125. At least get the facts straight.


2. The coin is in a pcgs holder whether you think it is artificial toned or not is really not important. Even if it were artificial toning because it is pcgs there will always be a buyer out there who would buy it

3. I would gladly pay over $200 now for this coin. Coins with toning are valued way over any guide or list price. Listed on eBay as a 0.99 open auction I would guess it would get about $350 today.

4. If you are interested in coins to make money walk away right now. You are going to lose around 13-20% of the value on sale of the coin. There are much better investment opportunities out there where you make much more money. Also you don't seem to be off to a good start.
