Ok guys, I know I'm beating the bloody pile of remains that was once a horse but here's my question. Hiw do I get a bank to carry rolls of halves for me. I've called up several banks in my area and NONE of them carry halves. I don't have 500 to drop on an entire box at once. Any suggestions on how to coax a bank to order them for me?
Why? If you do get a box they will be all new halves with no silver... IMHO waste of time and effort.
I don't think there is any way you can convince them to order rolls for you. No matter what, they probably must order them by the box. So, what must they do with the rest of the box? Their business customers don't want them. It's a lose/lose situation for the bank. Chris
This is just my opinion. You can do or get whatever you want! I have seen and heard of plenty of unsuccessful Kennedy Half searches that I feel it's silly... again this is just IMHO. I am sorry if I have answered in a negative way about searching halves.
In my experience, you can't coax them. You have to try different banks. If you've exhausted all possibilities in your area, then you're stuck.
Save up for a box then you can get one once a week. You have to order them $500 at a time then you can dump the same week.
If you order a box and them dump them back at the bank they won't be ordering any more boxes for you.
I've been ordering 2 boxes a week and dumping eight at one of the banks I use... been doing it for years, and they're happy to see me every week.
They can obviously make their own decisions but if you kept bringing them back in like that the bank getting them will generally tell you no the next time you try and order. Of course if the balance you carry with them and the level of business you do with them is high enough they won't care, but if you just have a small balance their patience generally wears thin very quickly when they realize they're losing money off you
If you cannot afford to buy $500 at a time then they aren't going order any for you...at least I've never heard of that happening. So the option that leaves you with is simply asking tellers at random. If you can do this with enough frequency at enough different locations (my experience is) it EVENTUALLY will yield results.
My bank will not order them for me but all of the tellers know I search them out and are always willing to give me what ever they have in their drawers so they don't have to count them at the end of the day. Not all tellers are on the lookout for silver so luck will play a part. Just be kind, if you get any, not to return to the same bank after you are done with your search. And don't go through them there and try to pass them back if you don't see silver, just take them and get rid of someplace else.
Not true. New halfs in the sense 2017? Those are NIFC, you'll only get new halfs if someone dumped them. You'll find anywhere from 2-4 silvers per box on average. My total to date in ounces of silver half through bank ordered rolls is 251. I live though in an area that seems plentiful of silver and proof halfs and have had streaks of skunk boxes. It takes patience and lots of boxes, on average I search 12 boxes of halfs per week.
True and if you can pick up, search and dump you can probably do at least three per week. You need accounts at two different banks, a dump bank and an order bank.
You're fine, I was looking for advise and honest opinions. I just was wondering if that opinion came form personal experience and how literally I should take it. If the payout is really that low it may be best for me to just stick to CRHing pennies and just buy silver halves from my local coin shop at spot from time to time when silver is low.
Your name is also @Imnotsure. As in I'm not sure they will order boxes for me any more if I continue down the path I'm on!
