I'm not trying to take anything away from the famous roll searching thread but I felt that the plight or silver half hunters deserved it's own. Alot of the halves I get are "loose" from behind the counter and not in rolls. Let's hear about your luck or lack there of.

I'll start off. I have visted over 25 banks in the last week and gotten ZERO silver halves. Can anyone beat my streak of bad luck?!

    Mine wasn't a streak, but...

I've got a friend who's a teller, and he always tells me he's watching for stuff for me. The other day, I went to see him and dump $700 in halves. He wasn't working, so I just took care of cashing in. He told me the next day that he came in an hour later, but that between the time that I left and he arrived, some old lady cashed in two full rolls of 90%ers, and that another teller had gotten them! Curses!

Stopped in two banks today - got a grand total of 1.50 in halves but my average is good - one 1969.

I would post my luck but I haven't had any. Granted, I just got my first batch of halves two days ago. I got 10 rolls then and 2 rolls today. That's all the bank had. I found one 1967 and that's it. So I guess that's a little bit of luck.

That thread is way too long, and I don't think anything should get directed towards it, especially a new thread. Anyway, this thread is for halves, not everything

I appreciate having a separate thread specifically for halves. It's just a different ballgame. How many penny searchers have to drive 200 miles round trip to find more halves?

8 sealed boxes, an evil cackle heard from the vault, every roll had already been searched & rerolled in bank wrappers and hand crimped back in box and box sealed. Managed to find 1/2 roll of au/bu 82, 2X2006, a 2007, & a clad bicent S while spot checking.

You've confirmed what I always thought, the tellers are going through them after hours. The secret is out but at $35 an ounce what can you expect.

Not around here... good size city and I've never met a teller who knew or gave a darn about coin collecting... high priced silver or not...

I fact, despite my kindness and bringing in the occasional pizza, they consider me a MAJOR hassle (and I don't even DUMP my coins back to them)

Now the Brinks guys probably have a method of checking 'em... as I to never find silver anymore...

I actually called brinks N. America main office and asked about their policy for sealed boxes of coin. First lady had an attitude and it rubbed off on me. Transfer to some other guy. He said they were only concerned about the outer box, the bank is responsible for its contents, even if the box is sealed shut. I was so mad, just hung up. Wish I would have asked how they can ensure the correct ammt. in boxes.

I've done a box of halves every week or two for a couple years. I've gotten about one silver per box on average...but much less lately maybe the past 6 months...like one every 6 or so :( Seems like it really isn't worth it anymore.

I'm going to the banks today to look for some halves. Hopefully I find something worth while. And yes, I also think these tellers are cherry picking the rolls and loose halves for silver. ****ers.

WTH? Exactly what are they doing that's ethically worse than what you're doing -- other than that they're beating you to the punch?

If you don't like it, feel free to take a job as a teller yourself.

I went to another six banks today and got zero silver halves. I did get a whole roll of 1976 halves in a special wrapper. These halves were put in a roll by Philadelphia National Bank. They were all 1976-p and all uncirculated. Maybe I shouldn't have opened it. I'll probably just have fun spending them.

I passed on the chance to buy $900 in halves from one back because a teller was nice enough to tell me that they were dumps from another collector. I worry about finding someone else's dump bank all the time.

My next step is going to be to go to some banks in a "crappy" section of town. I'm thinking there may be fewer collectors and a whole lot more people turning them in.

Threads like this help spread the secret too. There's no more silver to be found in boxes of halves....trust me! ;)

I've been searching rolls from banks and have had horrible luck. My wife now knows sort of what to look for and since she runs a Petsmart, she handles all of the money at night. Last night she came home and said "I think I found some old quarters, here ya go", and proceeded to hand me 3 walker halves!! They were in the quarter tray of a clerk.

My wife has better luck than I do, but I sure don't mind.
