OK! I can't attribute this one because I don't have the Half Cent references. But it is definitely a Half Cent. If it is a 1796, it would be very valuable, but I suspect is is not. The reverse stem on the right is unusually long compared to the images I can find, but I just can't locate a good batch of photos for comparison. I think it should be attributable with references. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1796-LARGE-...67?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3a7a0c352f
Cohen lists two varieties for 1796. Variety 1 does not have a pole to the bust of Liberty, variety 2 does have the pole. The reverse is the same for both.
I found a partial group of photos in back of one of my Holmes catalogs showing a half cent error collection. Of those, it appears to be the reverse on 1795 C-6. I'm not sure if the reverse was used on any other pairings or if there is another similar reverse not shown.
The reverse of both varieties of 1796 is the same as 1795. ps. Not that I was there mind you, LOL, just looked at the Cohen book.
The reverse of 96 is not the same as any of the reverses of 95 (there are four 95 reverese.) It is similar to 95 rev D but not the same. This coin is a 1795 C-6 (you got it right Marshall) Key feature is the leaf point below A3. It is below the left base of the A. This is true on only two the capped bust reverses 1795 rev A and 1795 rev D. On rev A the leaf point is well away form the letter. On rev D it is up very close to the letter. On this one it is close, Rev D. Rev D is only used on 95 C-6. On the 1796 the leaf point is centered between the C and A.
