Is anybody familiar with Dave Wnuck, or has had any experience with him before. His inventory and photography looks quite nice and he has something that I've been curious about for a very long time now. Is he easy to work with, and is he willing to negotiate a little bit? In case you're curious, I would really like to get my hands on this set, but am not particularly interested in the 1836. It's nice enough, but I'm focusing on braided hair half cents currently, having just one of another type would just make me want to complete that set as well. These are, as electrotypes go, spectacular examples. http://www.davewcoins.com/store/p57...Half_Cents.__Uncirculated_[uncertified]..html
I can't help you with the electrotypes but I did visit the website and he indeed has some very interesting coins and excellent photography.
Yes, Dave is an extremely knowledgeable and respected dealer. You should see his tables at major shows..... he always has an enormous selection. I've talked to him a couple of times about some of my coins, and he is friendly, and willing to share information. I would highly recommend him from my interactions with him, even though I've never actually conducted business with him.
He does have some great stuff. Not sure how willing he would be to negotiate unless something had been sitting for a long time or to break up that set, your best bet may be to sell the 36 if you really aren't interested in it to recover some of the cost
I have seen people write good things about him when doing coin show reports. I would just go ahead and ask him if he'll break up the set or make your best offer and see what he says. You've got nothing to lose and maybe he'll accept your offer.
Dave is one of the top dealers on the national circuit. Great inventory and loves to talk coins. A visit to his table is always on my "don't miss" list at shows. His occasional newsletter via email is a treat as well.
Thanks, kind of surprise that I haven't met him yet, but I haven't been getting to the national shows very much lately. I'm not really up to speed with the market for these electrotypes, but these are by far some of the nicest that I've seen.
