Half A Nickel

This is a Shield Nickel that split in half. Sure wish I had the other half to go with it. A great early split planchet.

Split after it was struck. Neat mint error.

 

They just don't make things like they used to.

 

I have a War Nickel that split. It's graded and I have both halves to that coin. This Shield Nickel is nice due to the age.

 

Neat error. How did you come by it? Surprised it was slabbed.

 

Not slabbed. I bought it at my LCS.

I was beginning to wonder; wouldn't it be really difficult to split a coin like that yourself?

 

Kinda like in ice cube, don’t know how it will crack

 

I've never tried but I would think so. For the ones I have and have seen, they all have the same appearance. The metal looks as if it wasn't bonded (so to speak) together correctly.

 

Yeah but collecting ice cubes isn't fun.
