Hi all, i posted it also on FORVM http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=105325.0 so far no reaction about its possible identity. does anyone here have an idea? Reference cf RIC 77 Mint? Obv. IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG Laureate head right. Rev. P M TR P COS III Roma, helmeted, seated left on cuirass, Victory in right hand, spear in left. 2.90 gr 18 mm
I'm not sure about it being a fouree - I see some coppery spots, but they look like they're part of the remaining dirt. Whoever cleaned that coin sure scratched it up. For shame. As far as style goes, I see a lot of variety in Hadrian's busts - they're not as homogeneous as they are on other early emperors. I don't know the reason for that, but if you look at a bunch of Hadrians, from say RIC 1 to 100, it appears like you're looking at a bunch of brothers, closely related, but not quite the same.
I like it, Oki ... hey dude, you have so many cool genuine Hadrian examples, that it'd be kinda cool for you to score a barbarous fourree type, eh? (either way, I like your new OP-score)
thx guys, for style i would say 95% not roman. obv and rev. obv. looks like Cilisia http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=5735
