I placed a proxy bid before heading off to work this morning, when I got home, I checked Roma site and found out that I won my coin! My second coin of this common Emperor.... Eastern Roman Empire AV Solidus ND struck circa 388-393AD Thessalonika Mint Arcadius obv. DN ARCADIVS PF AVG pearl-diademed/ draped/ cuirassed bust right rev. CONCORDIA AVGGG Helmeted Constantinopolis seated on throne/ adorned with lion heads
John, Congratulations on your latest score ! This beauty sure looks FDC, & a great addition to your trophy rack . I bid on 8 coins & was steamrolled again . The auction appears to be a success for Roma Numismatics, with an impressive offering. The Lanz collection did well, & early Roman & Republican coinage did exceptionally well. As usual, most coins sold many times over estimate .
Thanks for all nice comments Off to work to make $$$ to pay for it. I just broke my record today.....106 straight days at my work! Long hours = nice coins But, I have an easy job, cutting grass is like getting paid to do aerobic workouts, can't beat that! John
I agree Al, some went way over estimate. The hobby is very much alive and well You should take at look at some of the medieval beauties in upcoming MDC Monaco Auction/ I will daydream about them while mowing lawns....
Congrats @panzerman that is a beautiful solidus, really amazing engraving, striking and preservation. There were overall some pretty strong prices in Roma's RR section today. I won neither of the coins I prebid for but did manage to win one during the live sale which surprised me. A few people definitely got bargains but I was equally surprised by the massive hammer prices on some coins.
