What do you think? 1866 Shield Nickel with Rays- There's very light blue toning on the reverse but it was very hard to capture. 1883 Liberty V Nickel W/O Cents 1943-S Lincoln Wheat Cent 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar
1866 Shield Nickel with Rays-58 1883 Liberty V Nickel W/O Cents - 64 1943-S Lincoln Wheat Cent - 66 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar - 66
Notice the rim cud on the Shield nickel? Pretty interesting! I really like the toning on the V nickel too.
Shield Au-50 top of the shield knocks it down Liberty MS- 62 I have several 63/64's Lincoln MS-65 a pot shot cents are not my strong point Half MS-65 nicely toned but can only see a 65 here All 4 nice coins for sure !
I am thinking the first 2 are MS - MS62 or 63's depending on the luster. The last two I think are 65's. Nice batch of coins.
So the 1866 Shield Nickel is not a series I collect or know anything about. I realize the strike is weak, but the luster on this coin would be what you would expect on a AU55 coin. I liked the color and the die cracks. I'm not sure if it was the weak strike that gave it the grade. Few more pics of the color that I wasn't able to capture. The 1883 was a coin I wasn't looking to buy but I liked the colorful toning on this one. I believe the luster break in front of Liberty is holding the grade back. I don't see any major distracting marks or hits. Few more of the toning in direct light. Next is the 1943-S Lincoln, I simply bought this because of the toning. You don't see too many of these and although it's light toning, it's still visible. I think it would grade as a 65/66 today. Direct light. Lastly is the Kennedy half dollar, I really like the toning on this coin and the luster is booming! A few noticeable hits I think is what brought it down.
Your 1866 shield nickel does have a nice color to it. I do collect these but don't have any toned as such. As to your statement on its strike. Remember these where the first true nickels. Struck in a hard alloy. The platchet was thicker and a tad bit smaller in diameter . The top of the shield a high point if the horizontal lines were not worn I do believe it would of went into the MS numbers. I love these old ANACS holders. In fact I look for them at shows. Nice bunch of coins. Thanks for posting them. This is a repunched date also one of the most common of the 1866 varieties .
As for your 1883 Liberty NC nickel like a lot of both the NC And Cents it's a repunched date . From your images it's a tough call but I believe it is. After looking at the first image I seen the die crack that is a dead give away of the variety . I'm correct it places this coin in the $125-160 value range. Again nice coin.
Nice coins. I super love both nickels, and the half. The cent is also nice, but it's my least favorite of the group.
