    Howdy All!
Here is a nice 1941-S Quarter I picked up the other day! It is graded by NGC.
It is kindof hard to get good pic's of it because the holder has alot of nicks and marks on it. I'll post my comments later!

Post your comments, good or bad, and what you grade it, and your guess as to what NGC graded it.

I'll say that most of the marks are on the holder and that it is an MS-66 coin...(or maybe coin in a 65 holder that you bought because you thought it was a 66....lol).

I don't know how to grade the Wash 25c, but I'll guess an MS-65.

    My guess is MS-66

and yeah... aren't those marks indicitive of a LOT of loupes looking at the coin? IMHO typically to see if it IS what the slab says it is.

I have 2 1941-S quarters, (both MS grades) but I can't decide if they are the Large S or the small S....does anyone know of a good set of photos so I could tell the differents? In James Wiles book he has some photos but not really one good one of each of the types.

That is a beautiful one speedy. :thumb: Looks like a solid MS66 to me.

I would call it an ms-66.

    Speedy:
Try Cherrypickers Guide, 4th edition, Volume 2: page #162.
They show the two Large S mintmark varieties.

Good luck-- although the values are probably very inflated, in MS 65 one style is $400, vs $72 for the small s, and the other is $500 (vs $72).

    The coin is graded........................
MS66! And I really like it!
The coin has a satin, soft look to it and it's just really a nicely struck coin. There are few if any marks, or hairlines. The detail is really nice in person. It was a nice upgrade from MS63 :D :D
I'm starting to list these on NGC's listing, and am finding that it's pretty fun!

I'm having a great deal of trouble assessing the luster, and this is critical to the higher MS grades.

Assuming the luster is all there, I grade the coin 66, and I'll guess that NGC probably graded it 67 (although if it was very recently graded, a 66 wouln't surprise me as NGC has gotten a bit tougher from what I hear).

If the luster is not all there, it wouldn't surprise me to see it in a 66 or 65 NGC slab.

    Have fun...Mike

    Hey Mike,
This is in an older NGC slab--not one of the FAT slabs but an older one for sure.
It was hard to show the luster as the holder is all marked up---I know I need to work on taking better photos as mine are the pits.
