Daniel Carr restrike Peace Dollar fantasy issue, since no authorized 64D US Mint ones exist. I am gonna say ANACS MS 67

The only argument I would give is that almost all of these should be either 69 or 70 since they were always intended to be a collectible so never touched or stuck in a pocket.

In my experience with them, they grade from 67 to 69, with occasional 70s. I have a 1921 Broken Sword Peace Dollar restrike that made it to 70.

I hadn't searched the die pair. I see these regularly at coin shops. Would have bought one of them but the dealers want ridiculous money for them even raw.

I hope that it is the Dan Car copy. Otherwise the Secret Service is going to knocking on your door.

I'd grade it A+ for that year.

    Serious question :p
How do they determine a grade for these?
    By mint standards? MS?
Do they consider DC a recognized mint?

The grading system can be applied to any numismatic or numismatic related item. If this Carr item had marks or a rub, the 70 point grading system would be applied to it. If you have the talent, and if you studied grading extensively, you will be able to grade most anything.

The standards like “full LIBERTY” or “full horn” were created to help the beginner. The assumption was if these features were visible, the rest of the item will be consistent with the grade. That is not always true. Some pieces are poorly struck. Some pieces have other damage or issues.

That does look like the one I sold a few years ago. It was also die pair 5, and had very similar look to that one. I always thought it more like 67 to 68, but certainly, the Dan Carr fantasy restrikes grade in a very narrow range. As regards pricing, I sold it for triple the price I paid Daniel Carr for the token. Now, I see them going for 4-6 times the original price. I was recently offered $1200 for my Daniel Carr 1921 Peace Dollar, “Broken Sword” Roman Numbered restrike in MS 70 condition. There were only 100 of those struck.
