Please guess the grade this 1941-S PCGS graded Walker. Please provide your reasons for your grade as well.
personally, due to all of the rub on the leg, I can't grade it very highly. The flatness in the center of the coin is not flat strike it is wear. I think this because to me most of the other details are not struck sharply, but are still well struck. The luster breaks and exposes a layer beneath the original surface of the coin. In fact, I would grade it XF-45 but for the spectacular mint luster. So, given the wear and the less than sharp strike, I'd grade it an AU-53.
I'll say MS-63, for it looks to be weakly struck, instead of that being wear. This was hard, LOL. I gave it a MS-63 also because the luster is nice, and it has good eye appeal. Nice coin. :thumb: Phoenix
I'm going to go with a lower MS a grade. I know those 1940s Walker's are known to be very weakly struck and the luster on the coin seems to be consistent on both the high and low points (and therefore I see no wear). So, I'll say it's MS.
I think this is one of those AU64 coins. The strike isn't all that good, but I love the luster. It will be interesting to hear what NGC thought of the coin. Speedy
That's probably going to be true. I think a 40s Walker is a great example of those too because the strike quality was so poor...most people can't tell a high AU from a low MS; I can tell you I sure can't (that's why I said MS).
