physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

Saw this Susie B. on the Bay for a price that I considered cheap, so I impulse bought it. You will either guess it right away, or be baffled by my purchase, but either way - have a crack at it!

I will add - it is certified by old ANACS in a small white holder.

AU Details for the hit on the feathers on the reverse. To me the pictures are too washed out to really get a good feel for the coin. There are so many hits on the obverse in the pictures it is hard to imagine that it is not wear. Just a SWAG so don't hold it against me.

    MS-67.

That's not how I'd grade the coin, but I'm taking a shot in the dark.

Oh - this should be priceless when the grade is revealed. :) What would you grade it? I never thought about an ANACs grade and my grade. I gave my grade.

Well now, that's a spread AU to MS-67. How about you both try again? This is in a problem-free holder.

That poor eagle was clipped with that hole in the wing. Then I will say ANACs said MS-62. But that is as far as I go with those scans. But I like my first grade better. Poor thing got drilled by some irresponsible hunter. :)

Ouch, yeah. Wonder if the graders saw it? I'll say ANACS gave it a '66....

If I am to guess what grade ANACS gave it, MS67.

That's my guess too, MS62. Reminds me of that old commercial, "where's the beef" however in this commercial it's where's the luster! :D

Scan....notoriously hard on coins with luster.

Maybe there is no luster? Or, a different kind of luster? ;)

    Hmmmm.....now you're being mysterious. :)

  14. I will guess MS65 but am no expert in grading SBAs. TC

I hope it was very, very cheap like $1.50 but my guess

I hope it was very, very cheap like $1.50 but my guess would be ANACS MS-66. In truth it looks like any coin from any roll on any day - a solid MS-64 all day long.

Only reason I called it a 67 is because I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why you would want it otherwise. If I graded it myself it would be a 63.

Are there any special varieties for that date and coin? Not sure I did not look last night - but that could be another reason to get it graded.

I'm gonna guess they said 64.

You said an impulse buy - but why ?

The coin looks remarkable sharp and nearly Proof Like on the Reverse. The cheek and face a clear and there are some annealing marks in her hair.

The hit on the eagles wing could be grade limiting but its not really that obvious. I had to look twice before seeing what Mark was talking about.

I'd go with an MS66 for the coin.

I suppose I could "micro" grade the coin and start subtracting points but a 1980-D SBA just isn't that big of a deal.

No varieties that I know of.

Maybe it was a good buy -- like 99 cents or something.

I once bought $12.00 face value of 1964-and-earlier nickels from a dealer for $11.95.
