I've started collecting bust coins as I like that there is a lot of information pertaining to die varieties on the series. Here is a bust quarter I got in the mail today (the pictures are from ebay). The old ANACS graded this coin.

I think they (TPGs) always overgrade the dang things - IMO VF25.

I agree that there is a tendency for these coins to get overgraded, especially when people take an xf coin, scrub it up, and then they get rewarded by it landing in an AU holder. Not the best way to discourage profit motivated individuals from cleaning coins unfortunately. : (

I assume that we are guessing the ANACS grade. Therefor, I think it is XF-40.

I grade the coin VF 30

Nice coin! Bust quarters are cool, and 1000% tougher than their larger cousins...Mike

I think the coin is VF-30, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in an XF-40 holder. It is a nice looking piece though!

I would guess the grade but after you posted the pictures in my thread I looked up the auction on ebay just to see what you paid for it. Obviously I saw the grade too, so _____________. :secret:

P.S. Don't anyone else get any ideas until he reveals the grade! ;)

VF35 seems about right - if i had the coin in hand i'd probably say VF30.

I would grade it VF 25-30 but I rarely see them as they out of my price range in the better grades.

    Nice coin!

I have looked at this coin several times, and while I stand by my original grade, I am almost certain ANACS will have put this quarter in an XF-40 holder.

    I would give it at least a VF-30 and possibly a VF-35!
