Lots of heavy bag marks on the face of the coin, I would go no higher then MS60. Luster looks good, it is also slightly off center. Regards, S
I agree and would be shocked if it graded lower than MS63. For those of you who graded it lower, keep in mind that the marks are magnified significantly by the images and that examples in the MS60-MS62 range often look as if they have been run over by a train.
I bet PCGS called it MS64. It's not too baggy; it's unfortunate the only really bad mark is poorly placed on Liberty's cheek. If that same mark were hidden in her hair instead, this one would have a shot at 65.
wow nice coin ms-63/4 on the obverse and if it didnt have those bag marks on the face ms-65. I think the reverse is a easy ms-65 with the net grade a ms-64
i'm inclined to give it a 64 also. i really don't see enough severity in the marks to go less than a 63, even based on tight standards of the high quality of san francisco mint morgans of those early 80's yrs of production. pretty coin, thaks for sharing.....steve
Man, some of y'all are critical! Lol. That coin is an easy MS-64 IMO, and wouldn't surprise me if it was in a MS-65 holder. Sweet coin. :thumb: Phoenix
It actually graded MS-64 years ago. At the time I thought 63 at the least, even with the hit to the face. The original image is really close but It has a bit more luster. I was shocked at how low PCGS graded the coin but feel I understand better now. One of the members here gave me a reason I never noticed. I'll give this a while before telling the grade and what might have held it back.
