Let me know what grade you think that NGC will give these 4 half cents, and after I get them back from NGC I will post the grades.
This coin has a rim ding, or flat edge, so won’t be going to NGC. Looks to be nice grade/color, too bad!
I'll give it a shot, but I wish the pictures were a little more clear 34 clipped planchet VF30 34 AU52 35 AU54 53 AU54
Change your background to a non-reflective black or dark gray when you take your pics. The light coming off the white background is overwhelming the light coming from the coins. Your coins will show up much better.
Thank you for the tips about lighting and back ground, hope these photos are a bit better but I probably need a white light instead of yellow light.
Hmm. Thought I just posted something but it’s not showing up (I needed to edit it). So, here goes again. A heads up for @Hoky77: the only AU grades are 50, 53, 55 and 58. Steve
Whoops: MS 62,63 ect, Not AU.... Actually I knew better, in my defense my collection is all raw as I had a couple bad experiences with the grading services years ago and never got over it.
I got punished with my first submission. Mostly low MS grades and many details/no grades, one coin was deemed a counterfeit lol Now a couple of years later I can tell in most cases (+/-1 point) how they’ll grade my coins.
I've made only three submissions. My first I was happy with, (1984 DDO LMC MS64 RB)The second was a 1904 IHC was MS66 details cleaned. Years later I realized either the 66 or the cleaned didn't belong there. The third was a 1858 LL flying eagle that was a beautiful unc coin. I got a XF 45, I traded it to a friend as unc. who broke it out and resubmitted it and got a MS64. This was in 1990 or so when the services were relatively young and my belief is that they were more stringent with the grades than now but still 45 to 64? I never got over it.
So all that happened 30yrs ago? I didn’t even go to school back then In my opinion the grading services are much more consistent now, especially with US coins. Of course, there’s gradeflation, but I am too young to talk about it...
Probably they are more consistent, but for the better? I understand that there are only so many to go around and the marketing but is this for the better? I see many IHCs out there slabbed at 40 that you would have been lucky to get a 30 or 35 on back in the day. That section in my old ANA grading standards book is dogeared and falling apart. Things have changed.
I just acquired some uncirculated looking Indian head cents, harder dates, that I am planning to let NGC grade. Some of them may be worth $500-$1000 each, so I am afraid to take them out of their 2x2 cardboard flips. I just want to send them in, and see what comes back!
Just throwing out a suggestion, but if you are new to the hobby maybe wait a little while before submitting coins to ngc. There is no harm in waiting, the coins will still be there in 6 months, but your knowledge of what is worth getting graded will have increased dramatically. And who knows, you may develop a preference for raw coins! Keep in mind, most early copper is still collected raw and graded differently.
I haven't sent them in yet, still waiting for my NGC membership. I applied for the free membership because I am an ANA member. I'm not sure how long it takes..
