Guess the assigned grade of this Walking Liberty Half Dollar in the poll above and as usual provide your reasons! BTW, I do actually own this coin but am going to sell it soon so don't hold back. If you don't like it, you won't hurt my feelings one little bit.

And in case you were wondering, yes the luster really is that powerful.

MS-64 Hits on Liberty's leg keep it from MS-65.

Is that a scratch on the reverse beside the rim at 7:30?

    I say it's a really nice looking MS-63

    It is on the holder.

I would go MS-65, recognizing the hits Hobo mentions but still think the rest would make up for it. Nice coin.

I wish I knew when this coin was slabbed because 5 or 6 years ago NGC would have given it a 64 without question, but no higher than that.

But I just can't see Lehigh buying a 64 so I suspect it is in a 65 slab. If it's graded any higher than that NGC really screwed the pooch on this one.

NGC graded it MS-66 because of the clean fields.

I grade it MS-64 because of the multiple marks on the central set of skirt lines, plus the similar chatter on the eagle's legs.

I agree with you. It should be a 64 because of the hit marks on the skirt. The toning doesn't make it easier to grade, that is for sure...

I agree with those comments, but I think NGC said MS65.

Does detail and strike not get looked at for grading? It seemed like the detail of Miss Liberty's left hand was not great. Does this get looked at when grading?

    Thanks for your help.

Yes and no...at 64 it is far less critical. At 66 is absolutely should. Now here is the catch. The hand is most often weak.

Yes, it does. But that date/mint is known for being weakly struck. The hand and left leg are almost always flat. Just not that flat - it's a matter of degree.

I voted other..and I say AU-58...scratches on the leg look like wear.

    Are scratches wear or damage?

Without reading the other comments, I'll say it is a MS-64. It is a nice coin, but the weakness in strike holds it to a 64 IMHO. It is not an astounding coin, but I do think it is nice. :thumb: (BTW, that is my personal grade. I'll say it is in a 65 slab, but it just barely made it IMHO.)

How do I know you didn't peek. Prove it. BTW - where in Pennsylvania are you from?

Double six ... even with those hits in the skirt.

    Scratched or bagmarks?

I see both...bagmarks are more obvious..yet I see scratches that look like wear on the obverse...may be just the slab though..
