I would give it a MS 64 , there are some small marks on the obverse and some striation marks on the reverse ,the slight toning is nice I wouldn't say it's a full step some wear on the lower portion nice strike for that year Ms64 very nice one.

That would be an NGC MS-66.

I also said 66, but would not be surprised if it got slabbed a 67

Um, you might want to look again. It isn't rainbow toned, but it is toned.

I'll say MS-66, I was debating between a 65 and a 66, but I thought I'll give it a 66. But, I do think it is definetly one of those two. Nice coin! :thumb:

    Nice coin, Lehigh!

The pics have me scratching my head with respect to the luster on the coin. I suspect you tried to accentuate the color, and as a result the luster is all there but just not showing -- therefore I guessed 66 (no FS, but neat polished die!).

Thanks for sharing & congrats on the NEWP...>Mike

G: Please give me time to edit my posts and hide my stupidity. ;)

    My posts should read:

[please don't take seriously for 5 minutes]

No worries, I actually responded to you initial post apologizing for omitting the TPG info because I missed it also. Had to edit my response.

OK - since most of the estimates are coming in at 66, let me see if I can add something that might change a few estimates before Lehigh post the answer. And by the way, I voted for 66 too - as the grade on the slab. Personally, I'd say 65. But I digress.

Take another look at the reverse. Think that's how it should look ? And this should make another point for those who think that allowances should not be made regarding date/mint when grading.

Well, this what the reverse should look like in regard to the amount of detail present. Anybody want to change their minds ? And no this is not a Proof.

    Wow,

That is the best reverse of a Jefferson Nickel I have ever seen. What year was that minted, please please please show the obverse.

I see it know. Must have been the bleary eyed time and posting on the wifes lap top in the dark that made me miss it....nice coin, very nice.

    Doug:

Just out of curiosity, is the pic you posted a 94 or a 97 matte nickel?

Well - I voted, but I don't think full steps or at least what I think full steps are. Not an expert, but willing to bet those nice big pictures helped me grade the coin one grade lower than what it was. Right after I clicked vote - I was willing to bet it would look nicer in hand.

G: If you penalize all Jeff's that don't have a reverse struck as strongly as that one, you'll be subtracting a point from 99.9% of them. ;)
