Hi all, since my last attempt at Guess The Grade was an abosolute failure  Lets give it another go shall we? :D

This time I thought that I would choose the Jefferson since we have recently had a design change and there has been a buzz about that series.

Here we go... Guess now, Answer Friday at Midnight (EST) (or whenever guessing dies off....)

    Added for accuracy:

Obverse: The scratch going across the head and the scratches on the collar are on the holder.

Reverse: The "scratch" going from the mint mark through S UNUM is actually a reflection.

Nice luster, clean cheek and jaw, looks a bit rough in the field around the mint mark. Looks like a PCGS slab, probably MS66.

Is that a lamination under the E
    and T of WE TRUST?

It's a very nice strike, but I see some scratches (are they on the coin or the holder). Even with the scratches, I think it's probably MS64.

I'd say 64. There are just a few too many hits and scratches on the coin (and I can tell some of them are on the holder and some on the coin) to make 65.

i would say 63 because f they 3 scratches on the obverse, and on the reverse there is a small nick on the rim

i dont like that deep gouge by the 3 either

I don't think that's a deep gouge. It appears to be a shadow at the edge of a raised area.

The three sratches that I think you refer to are on the holder, and I'm looking at the reverse rim with 10x magnification, and I don't see any nicks. It must be on the holder as well.

ziggy is right, the "deep gouge" by the 3 is actually a shadow from the ribbon in Tommy's ponytail.

Does anyone know of a method to remove scratches from slabs? Do you suppose I could buff them out with a dremel?

Longnine- I don't think it is the true definition of lamination. More like a planchet impurity. Depending on the angle of view, sometimes it's invisible.

Get hold of Conder101. He collects and catalogs slabs and probably knows something about curating them.

MS-65 FS. It appears the coin is raw.

63 obv, nick/gouge in hair, 64 rev. Really hard to tell in the holder. Remember this is graded from a photo, so the fine stuff wont show unless you see and rotate the coin. Nice coin, great eye appeal, the nick in the hair doesnt offend me too much, I dont like too many marks at all on the cheek of any coin. I have never graded anything above a 65, seems like it goes exponential starting at 64.

It appears to be a toned MS-63. I don't see anything that would push it above that.

I'll assume it was visible to the grader: MS62
