Guess the grade and if the coin got a CAC sticker or not. Do you like the toning? All opinions are appreciated. Thank you! (1) (2)
I would only be taking wild guesses at this point in my hobby. However, I really like the first coin. I often think the toning on some coins looks bad, but the reverse toning is pleading to me. Cool coin, thanks for sharing.
1.MS 63 CAC, very nice toning. One I would buy if I had the money 2 MS 60 toning does not look the best, and blocks me from truly seeing the coin
Columbian 58 Columbia 64 - Wild guess. No way to see the surfaces from the pictures with that much toning. I'm guessing eye appeal limited the grade on this one.
While the Columbia toning isn't the most appealing, I like the fact that it seems to be original to the packaging that these came in: Image courtesy of: http://www.kittlecoins.com/photos/1936columbiaPDS2.jpg
What was interesting about @brandon spiegel answer was that the grades and CAC were correct, just the coins were mixed up!
There appears to be some wear on the high points (like the bottom curls of hair). Although, I would not be surprised to see this coin in any holder between AU 58 and MS 64. The fact that it was in the 58 holder helped me pick this one up for a nice price.
Sudden break in the toning on the brow and cheekbone were the big clues for me. I actually didn't see this hint before posting my guesses. The Columbia was a bit of luck. Obviously original, so probably not banged up beyond 64-65 surfaces, negative eye appeal with the toning for me, so 64 made the most sense.
I have collected toned coins my entire life and own many Morgans, these coins are to my eyes what my first beer was after Parris Island. Ill talk toning for hours at a time but not too many of my buds are left sooooo this board is a pleasure for me, keep putting up those tona lisa beautys. M1
