I have no idea where the pix went. They really were there once. They also showed up on #61 once. Weird tonight.

    Trying to make it closer?

I guessed 64. Coin looks really clean, but I suspect PCGS knocked it down for its overall look.

What in the world is going on right behind Abe's neck? It looks bubbly, like rusty dies or something. Assuming that's rusty dies I think I would say 65. But I think PCGS said 66

    I think it's die wear -- that's a high-stress spot in the die.

I can't recall seeing a Lincoln with die rust. Hmmm.....

I think I remember a 09 S VDB that came through here, we all thought environmental damage, and then it was shown in a slab.
Man, I hope someone remembers that thread. Doug I think lectured us on rusted dies in that thread. I'll try looking but I don't think I'll be able to find it.

If I remember correctly, Doug ask me if I had ever seen an S VDB from a rusty die. I said "no" and he said he had not either.

I went with 65 for a few hits and overall looks, but the O looks nice and clean(note completely). :)

Dick, what do you think about the spot behind his neck? You have the coin in hand. I guess high stress point would change the die in that location a bit.

IF I found it on the coin in hand (note the IF), it is a minor texture that is basically the same texturing both in front of and behind Abe in all of the middle 2/3.

64+, almost no hits....tough call. This one is going to depend on their mood that day.

While I can't recall the comment neither can I recall seeing one. But I have seen more than a few Lincolns that were struck with rusty dies.

Regarding this coin, I agree that there are flow lines both in front of and behind the bust. But I can also see several tiny pimples (very minor) in both locations that indicate this coin was struck with a slightly rusty die.
